Location & Notifications
The Learners Log application requires access to the following functionality provided by your iPhone:
- Location Services
- Notifications
- Photos
- Camera
Location Services
Accessing location services allows the application to:
- Determine which state within Australia – so the correct target goals are used.
- Determine day, dawn/dusk and nighttime driving – so you don’t have to worry about logging nighttime totals.
- Calculate the length of trips – so you only need to enter the start or end odometer value.
- Log the route travelled – so you can view this on a map.
Notifications
This allows the application to:
- Display the number of alerts within the application’s badge on the home screen.
- Alert you should you forget to stop logging a new trip
Photos & Camera
In order to personalise Learners Log, access to your current photos, if you want to choose an existing photo, or your camera, if you want to take a new photo, is required.
So instead of the default learner, supervisor and vehicle images, you’ll see an actual image of the person and vehicle.
You Need to Explicitly Allow ACCESS
In order for the application to be able to access this functionality, you need to explicitly allow it to do so.
When you first start the Learners Log application, you will be asked to allow access to your location and then to allow use of badges and notifications.
Access to your photos and camera will be requested when you first decide to choose an existing photo to personalise the application, or request to take a new photo with the camera.
What Happens If I Don’t Allow Access
You may as well get out of the car, get the physical log book and use that.
If you didn’t allow access, and you want to, then you will need to manually change what Learners Log can access using the iPhone’s Settings.
Display the iPhone’s Settings, and then scroll down until you find, or search for, Learners Log.
To get the most out of Learners Log, we recommend the following settings:
- Location – While Using the App
- Photos – Enabled
- Camera – Enabled
- Notifications – All (we have a cute horn beep notification sound)
- Cellular Data – Enabled (you’ll be out and about in your car remember, not in your house)
